Empowering Learners Through Geoscience Outreach

In 2024, YES Network Namibia led impactful geoscience outreach programs in the Kunene and Omusati regions, reaching over 2,500 learners from Grades 8 to 12 across 16 schools.

The outreach sessions introduced learners to core geoscience concepts such as types of rocks, the rock cycle, mineral identification, and the everyday uses of minerals and rocks, while also exposing them to potential career pathways in geoscience. Designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, the programs emphasized engaging, relatable delivery aligned with the school curriculum.

By highlighting local minerals and mining activities, the outreach fostered a sense of ownership and pride in regional resources, while creative, learner-centered approaches helped spark curiosity, even among students previously uninterested in science.
